New Caney, Texas is known as the “dumping ground” for pets no longer wanted. Badger’s story is not unique, but this eight-month-old puppy was luckier than most; on Saturday, Badger was rescued.

According to ThisIsHouston, a non-profit animal advocacy and rescue organization, Badger had made his way to a Good Samaritan’s house – a family who had helped a handful of previously dumped dogs in the past. The woman would feed Badger, and he would sleep in her backyard, making himself comfortable on a tree stump.

And then days later, Badger had disappeared. The Good Samaritan contacted ThisIsHouston about her concerns for Badger’s welfare, and also added that the dog seemed to have been suffering from a neurological issue which needed to be addressed.

A group of volunteers went out to help Badger and when they found him, the dog was extremely fearful and wouldn’t let anyone get close to him. The rescuers were finally able to trap the dog, and his new life was about to begin.

It’s heartbreaking to think of pets being dumped, let alone dumped when they’re injured/sick and in need of help. It’s also heartbreaking to see him make himself comfortable on a tree stump, but we’re just so thankful this life is over for him.
