A beautiful, young spaniel puppy arrived at the Greenacres Rescue in Talbenny, Haverfordwest in the United Kingdom in September 2023. The puppy, born with six legs and other anomalies, had been turned over to a local veterinarian practice after she had been found; obviously abandoned at the Pembroke Dock B&M Car Park.

On Saturday, the puppy named Ariel was able to walk on four legs – just as Mother Nature intended, after surgery performed by the staff at the Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital. Ariel underwent surgery on Thursday.

… where we walk all our canine in patients. We are very proud to have been involved in Ariel’s care and delighted Greenacres found us to be as outstanding as we think we are. Special shout out to Aaron our surgery resident who has spent the weekend being interviewed for international TV and radio!

The Greenacres Rescue had raised funds for Ariel’s operation, and the complications involved in the surgery will require life long checkups for the puppy, but by the looks on her face and her concentrated efforts to walk on four legs, all the work getting her to this point were more than worth it.

She is now back at her foster home recuperating:

The procedure went as well and to be expected and now she’s got a few weeks of recovery, the staff at Langford have been wonderful and we could not ask for better service.

Ariel has to now rest for the next 10-14 days to recover and we will post updates over that time.

When Ariel was found, she had two extra legs growing out from her right hindquarter which just dangled and appeared useless. She walked a bit awkward, but her tail wagged, and she had been doing her best to adapt.

How exciting to see a puppy with such a zest to live, and how exciting to know so many people cared about an abandoned puppy and helped her find the best life she is excited to enjoy.
