At the Pennsylvania SPCA, a vulnerable puppy had been abandoned wrapped in a towel in front of the Pennsylvania headquarters. The dog, named Sylvester had been suffering from the deadly parvovirus, and without treatment he surely would have died.

Was that the reason Sylvester was abandoned? More than likely his owners didn’t know what was wrong with their pup, but abandoning a pet, no matter what the reason, is still illegal and just heartbreaking for the dog. What had Sylvester been feeling about the separation? Along with feeling so very sick, who can even imagine how scared he must have been left outdoors all alone and how sick he felt?

The medical team at the Pennsylvania SPCA have been providing the puppy with lifesaving treatment, and fortunately, Sylvester seems to be improving, although he is still not out of the woods.

Patients like Sylvester must live in our isolation sections. The parvovirus is contagious and could impact the other animals in our care. To keep a better eye on patients just like him while they are treating patients outside of the isolation section, we are hoping to outfit these rooms with baby monitors.
