In Royal Palm Beach, Florida, residents in the area were heartbroken for a sweet dog who chased after the red car that pushed her out and then sped away. A neighbor’s Ring camera picked up the abandonment that Elyria must have felt as her world fell apart when she stopped and stared in the middle of the road, searching with her eyes and heart, for her owners who left her behind.
The footage was posted on the NextDoor platform and went viral online. The first video showed the two-year-old dog chasing the car after it backed out of the parking spot. The second video showed Elyria standing in the spot staring at the car as it sped away.
At Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, the staff realized that Mutty Paws had previously helped rehome Percy a few months ago who was Elyria’s brother. Elyria’s microchip revealed she had already been adopted from the county shelter; no doubt her family failed her. She will never ever be failed again. She was soon sent to foster with Mutty Paws.
And so Elyria is ready to start her new life. Yes, it took weeks for Elyria to start feeling better about herself; the trauma she suffered from having been abandoned had confused her; she had been shut down, and when she arrived at her foster home, she visibly shook and huddled in the corner. Slowly she crawled out, and her healing began.
This week she happily climbed into the car and was on her way to Darbster Rescue.
Sweet Elyria is off to bigger and better things and will be heading on transport tomorrow to the NE with Darbster Doggy. Elyria got her clearance on Wednesday with Dr. Kadish and she will hit the road at 8am tomorrow. Elyria was the dog who was videoed being dumped near Calypso Bay in Royal Palm. She has been in foster and wow, whoever adopts her in NH will be the lucky one. She is one amazing girl.

A spokesperson for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said deputies are investigating the case along with help from Animal Care and Control. Under Florida Law, abandoning a pet is considered pet cruelty and is punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.
