An alligator in Brandon, Florida, has been rescued after a concerned citizen brought attention to the reptile’s plight after spotting its snout taped shut for months.

According to the Facebook page of Amber Lock, who resides in Lumsden Reserve, the gator’s mouth had been taped by a trapper back in December when he attempted to remove it from the pond. It seems as if the trapper couldn’t locate the gator after that and left. Since that time, Amber had contacted local trappers, however because of required permits, no one came out to help. Meanwhile, the gator continued to swim around in the pond unable to eat. Amber called this entire situation inhumane.

And it wasn’t until this week, as the story of the alligator made national news, that she was finally rescued and relocated. The 5-foot, 7-inch gator, dubbed Georgie has now found a new home at Gatorama.

Gatorama, a family-owned animal park and licensed alligator farm in Palmdale, Florida, announced that Georgie, the taped alligator, has found a new home. They did not go into specifics about the rescue procedures, although these trappers are experienced and absolutely know their trade – for their own safety and for the reptile’s safety too. Ben Register, general manager at Gatorama, checked on Georgie as soon as he arrived at work, and guess what – George is a lady gator!

“She is doing well so far and will be offered a feeding as soon as the day warms up,” said Register. “Even though she probably won’t eat for a few days due to the stress of being moved and the ordeal she been through.

We are thankful that Georgie was finally caught. I used to trap alligators with my father and I know how difficult catching alligators in an overgrown retention pond can be.”

Ben Register Press Release

Georgie will be provided quality care and treated with respect by experienced personnel who understand how to handle large reptiles properly.

Georgie is expected to be making many appearances soon. Gatorama offers educational activities such as gator exhibits, animal encounters, alligator shows, and more which help to educate people about these amazing creatures while having fun too.

Many thanks to Amber Locke, whose persistence and love for all animals and reptiles helped to save Georgie.
