In Anchorage, Alaska, a man had been driving past a dumpster when he spotted a moose chewing on what appeared to be a trash bag.

According to the Facebook page by James West, the moose had been foaming at the mouth, chewing profusely and stumbling. Even though West had considered calling animal control, he knew “time was of the essence.” The plastic bag had already moved farther down the moose’s throat. West could see the moose had been having breathing difficulties.

So how does one gain the trust of a moose? West was very careful, and for the next ten minutes slowly approached the animal, talked to him and helping the moose understand he was there to help. West was able to grab the bag from the moose’s mouth and pull.

Miraculously, West was able to remove the plastic bag and gave the moose a pumpkin to eat. For the next hour, West watched the moose play with and eat the pumpkin.

The moose seemed to have figured out that West had helped him.

West did decide to clean up the trash around the dumpster and gathered up the dangerous debris in the area so as to protect other wildlife.
