A Derby, Kansas police officer went an extra mile of kindness to replace a little child’s therapy pig that had been killed after an animal attack.

According to the Derby Police Department’s Facebook page, on January 29, Lt. Jessica Whitehead had responded to an animal attack on Monday, and it broke her heart seeing the youngster so upset after his pet therapy pig did not survive.

Lt. Whitehead took it upon herself to help the family replace the pet. Whitehead went to Missouri for a new baby pig and drove it back to Kansas.

The pig was treated like a king and spent the night with Lt. Whitehead. On February 4, Lt. Whitehead took the pet and gave it to the family. The family was so excited to get their pet replaced. We haven’t seen smiles that big in awhile!

The family received the adorable piglet on Sunday, and seeing all the smiles so happy again, made it all worthwhile.

Many thanks to Lt. Whitehead. You are a hero!
