In Philadelphia, a bunch of roosters and chickens are getting the best breaks of their short lives. On their way to slaughter, the birds fell off a truck headed to slaughter. The Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia rescued them, and now they are all up for adoption.

According to ACCT Philly’s Facebook page, it all went like this:

Who would have thought falling off a truck could make it an animal’s lucky day? These 11 chickens were headed to be slaughtered for someone’s dinner, but their crate fell off the truck that was transporting them!

Our officers responded to the call about multiple crates scattered on Roosevelt Blvd early this morning and the birds spent the rest of the getting settled in much less cramped living space

The chickens have been lucky enough to have found a retirement home at Last Chance Ranch, but the roosters are still in need of a place to call home. Please check with local ordinances to make sure you can have a rooster at your residence of farm.

Are you in a position to adopt a rooster (you must live in an area where it is not illegal to own a rooster) or one of the other many critters?

Check out all of the critters and fill out an application here:
