What has to have been a complete act of animal cruelty at the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier in Florida over the weekend, an individual videoed hooking a seagull flying by, has been cited and charged with animal cruelty.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the person has been charged with animal cruelty and the illegal “taking of non-listed migratory bird species protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.”

The entire group seen in the video have all been issued trespass notices and are now banned from the fishing pier. On July 10, authorities were sent a video that had been posted to social media showing one person casting his pole and line upward towards the bird, laughing and hooking a flying seagull.

Navarre beach, FL fishing pier. These young boys are hooking seagulls on purpose and laughing about it. This is not an isolated incident. Seagulls are a protected species. FWC is involved. #dobetter #FWC #protectourwildlife #entitled #brats #navarreFL #Florida

The seagull appeared in distress and pliers were used to remove the hook and line from the seagull.

  1. Absolutely disgusting!!! I hope the authorities will “throw the book” at this POS!!!

I am not a bird fan but I would not hurt one either. I do NOT understand why someone would think that this is “ok” or funny???
