Pull out your tissues for happy tears! This is an adoption success story, even after a dog had become so disappointed in humans for letting him down so many times.

Meet Logan; yep this is one big guy. He’s a Cane Corso, a popular breed known for being protective, smart, trainable and confident. The dogs can range in weight from 95 to 110 pounds, and for the right family, can be the perfect companion.

According to the Animal Friends of the Valley located in Wildomar, California, Logan and a female Cane Corso had been surrendered by their previous owners. Both dogs arrived at the shelter extremely emaciated. The female was adopted within a short time of her arrival, and shortly after that Logan was adopted. Sadly, Logan was returned just a few days later because he “busted” out of his crate while riding in the car. Poor Logan, so many disappointments in so short a life; he just seemed to be so sad.

August is “Clear the Shelter Month,” and animal advocate Rocky Kanaka, continued to advocate for the dogs – especially Logan. In a viral TikTok video, we meet the two, and our hearts break for this gentle giant:

And then just a few weeks later, Logan’s life changed. A family with five children showed up for the meet and greet. The little boy told Logan to “sit” before he could receive his treat, and Logan eagerly obeyed. After that display of happy tears bonding, Logan got the “thumbs up” from the mother of the children, and his life has changed.

Perhaps this is a good time to remind families who adopt shelter dogs, none of us really know how much personal pain and emotional grief these shelter pets have had to endure, but they need time to decompress, to get used to their new environments, to bond with their new humans and to feel confident and loved in their new homes.

Kanaka could be heard saying:

it’s almost like you don’t believe it. you could see in his eyes he is ready to give the love to a forever family.
