A Good Samaritan who stopped his car to help a mother duck and her babies cross a road in California, was killed by a teenage driver.

According to NBCNews, the tragic incident occurred on Thursday in Rocklin when Casey Rivara, 41, pulled over to the side of the road at the intersection of Park Drive and Stanford Ranch Boulevard when he spotted the ducks trying to cross the busy street. Casey stepped out of his vehicle to guide the ducks across the road when a 17-year-old driver struck the man with her vehicle as he attempted to do a kind deed.

The driver remained at the scene, and first responders arrived to assist, however Rivara died at the scene.

Casey was an employee at Maria Montessori Charter Academy and had been driving his children home for swim practice when he stopped to help the mother duck and her ducklings.

The teenager was not arrested and the incident remains under investigation.
