When Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reached out to the shelter asking if they could help this family find a new best friend, the staff invited young Priscilla and her family to the shelter to pick any dog they wanted to adopt and offered to waive any adoption fees.

Priscilla fell in love with Atlas, a playful 5-year-old husky. As soon as he saw her, he ran up to her and plopped his head in her lap.

I feel like i have a strong connection with him. i’m absolutely so happy and i love atlas.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to an animal cruelty call on June 5. Donald Cummins had driven up to a seven-month-old German shepherd puppy while he was still in the roadway and yelled at the child that the dog didn’t belong in the street. And then he allegedly ran over the dog.

Cummins was arrested two weeks later and has been charged with animal cruelty.

The sheriff’s association also donated a $500 PetSmart gift card to the family to help them with supplies and training for Atlas.

So whose smile was larger – Priscilla or the staff at Bradshaw Animal Shelter?
