A woman from Ohio was gored, tossed into the air and injured while visiting Yellowstone National Park and getting too close to a bison.

According to the National Park Service, the 25-year-old woman from Grove City approached the animal on Monday as it grazed near a boardwalk area by the Black Sand Basin located about two miles northwest of Old Faithful. The woman came within 10 feet of the animal when it attacked.

Emergency help arrived, and the woman was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center suffering from a puncture and other injuries. The incident is under investigation.

The NPS issued the following warning to tourists:

Wildlife in Yellowstone National Park are wild and can be dangerous when approached.

When an animal is near a campsite, trail, boardwalk, parking lot, or in a developed area, give it space. Stay more than 25 yards (23 m) away from all large animals – bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes and at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves. If need be, turn around and go the other way to avoid interacting with a wild animal in close proximity. This is the first reported incident in 2022 of a visitor threatening a bison (getting too close to the animal) and the bison responding to the threat by goring the individual.

Bison have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal. They are unpredictable and can run three times faster than humans.

  1. My Dad was SOOOOOOO right when he said, “common sense is not so common” & “you can fix many things but you can’t fix stupid”………

WTF was this individual thinking??? Wild animals are WILD and deserve respect AND their space. One should always remember that wild animals are sharing the environment with us!!! We must follow the rules and instructions that park officials provide so that we are all safe……..
