In St. Paul, Minnesota, an award winning show dog has been returned to his owner after some awesome detective work and the kindness of a local family.

According to the social media page of the dog’s owner, Michelle Baker had driven to St. Paul from Iowa to show her prize winning Boxer named Jasper at the Land O’Lakes Kennel Club Dog Show. Jasper had been kenneled in the back of Baker’s van when the vehicle was stolen on Saturday morning outside of the Envision Hotel in St. Paul.

South St. Paul police released a photo of the suspected car thief captured on video from the hotel surveillance cameras. The Wintz family recognized the man and knew where he lived. Their expert sleuthing enabled them to find Baker’s vehicle, and meanwhile had been in constant contact with Michelle.

James Wintz was given permission to break the window, and there was Jasper – shivering in the cold, but otherwise unharmed. The family wrapped him in a blanket, gave him food and water, and were ecstatic to reunite Jasper with his family.

The South St. Paul Police Department posted the following happy news:
