It might seem travelers have all become accustomed to flight delays, ranging from weather to staffing issues, and as annoying as it all has become, we just have to persevere.

So when an American Airlines flight had a slight delay for departure recently, and for quite the unusual reason, passengers and staff were pleasantly taken aback. Ritchie, an oversized Pyrenean Mountain dog, aka Great Pyrenees, had been boarding his flight with his human and attracted lots of attention.

According to Ritchie’s Instagram account, Ritchie was greeted by the crew and had already been photographed dozens of times – each time kind of smiling for the camera. And when he stuck his big head in the cockpit, need we explain how thrilled the pilot was to meet the giant floof? Not all of us get to pose in the flight cabin, and when the pilot placed his hat on Ritchie’s big head and popped a selfie, what could have been sweeter?

Yes, Ritchie is a fully trained service dog and was wearing his harness which suggested he was exempt from the rule of large dogs being required to travel in the cargo hold. The huge canine is trained to help his owner with certain disabilities. And as Ritchie made his way to his seat with his human, indeed he earned some happy smiles.

No big deal however; the humorous caption explained the ever so brief delay taking off:

They had a bit of technical trouble up there.
