A two-year-old canine hero has shown us that a dog is definitely man’s best friend. According to the Sonora State Attorney General, the light brown coated pooch named El Palomo traveled with rescue personnel almost two miles and was able to located Fr Gregorio Romero, (aka Don Goyo) 84, in a remote area of the Sonora desert.
Romero had last been seen at his home in Cuervitos on November 27, and had become disoriented and was unable to find his way home. The Mexico Detail stated the elderly man’s niece, said he had gone to visit a relative on previous occasions, but had always returned home, so she decided to wait a few more days.
Authorities had sent out deputies to help in the search, but with no luck finding the man. And then on December 4, after more authorities joined the search, they also brought the man’s dog – Palomo with them. The loyal pup tracked along hills, paths and ravines, and thanks to the dog – the man was found.
The elderly man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for malnutrition and dehydration. Meanwhile, Palomo waited outside of his human’s hospital door waiting to go home with the man he so adored.
The unconditional love of his pet allowed Don Goyo to be reunited with his family, as it was ‘Palomo’ who led the authorities to where Don Gregorio was.
