A tan, senior spaniel named Bowie hugged his owner one last time, telling her in his own way that he was ready to “cross the rainbow bridge.” The short video went viral on TikTok.

The video, shared on September 28, posted by @iamrachelmarch, showed Bowie hugging his mom while he rested his head on her shoulder.

Here’s the emotional clip:

“UPDATE: Officially RIP Bowie [baby]”

Sadly, Bowie had been in level six heart failure and near the end of his life. Most senior dogs do have some degree of heart disease which includes symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, weight loss, increased heart rate and a swollen belly.

Oh, the pain most of us have felt when it was time to say goodbye to our four-legged friends. Just last week, my friend Lindsey said goodbye to her Maltese named Lucky. Lindsey and Lucky were always together, and although 16 years together is a long time, it’s never long enough and they are gone too soon. And amid all the heartbreak, Lindsey was right at Lucky’s side to say goodbye and bid him an emotional wonderful playtime experience with the other pets at the “Rainbow Bridge.”

Followers on TikTok comforted Bowie’s mom and so many could sadly relate similar experiences and broken hearts. Still, one user added that helping a pet die peacefully and with no pain or anxiety, and you as their owner right by their side, is the “kindest act of love we can offer.”

Rest in peace Bowie.
