In the Chinese city of Taiyuan in Shanxi province, a security guard was videoed pouring boiling hot water over a pregnant cat on Monday for stealing his sausage. The evil deed resulted in the death of the cat and her kittens according to the rescue group who desperately tried to save her and her kittens.
Yahoo News reports the graphic and disturbing video showed the guard placing the cat into a cage and pouring boiling water over her. Shortly after the egregious act, a Good Samaritan arrived from the Taiyuan Small Animal Rescue Association and rushed her to a vet. Her four unborn kittens were delivered by caesarean section, however none of them survived. Although veterinarians tried their best to save the life of the mother cat, she died two days later of injuries related to the scalding burns over her entire body.
The firm, Taiyuan Security Service, has since fired the guard and made a $750 donation towards the cat’s medical bills.
The incident has prompted widespread outrage after trending on the Chinese social media Weibo; citizens are calling for animal abuse laws to punish inhumane and cruel acts like this. Although the man has been interviewed by police, because of China’s lack of almost any animal cruelty laws, the offender will likely walk away with little more than a slap on the wrist.
“Faced with such serious acts of committing and spreading violence, we should no longer remain at the level of moral condemnation,” a Weibo netizen posted.
“It is the consensus of the whole society to say no to cruelty against animals, but incidents of cruelty and killing of animals still occur from time to time. With laws, we protect not just the animals, but also ourselves.”
China has gradually moved away from eating dogs, and the younger generation has been making great strides encouraging the government to punish these thugs.
The Weebo post, heart wrenching photos and descriptions, have since gone viral with more than 560 million views by Friday morning.
