Owner drowned in Lincoln Park Lagoon trying to rescue his dog

A dog owner drowned on Saturday afternoon after he jumped into the Lincoln Park Lagoon in Chicago trying to rescue his dog who had fallen in.

According to AbcChicago, the Chicago Police Marine Unit found the body of  Michael Fernandez, 29, on Sunday – more than 19 hours after he jumped into the water.

As the Chicago Fire Department’s Scuba Team searched the lagoon on Saturday, they were not able to locate the man; the search continued into the next day.

The dog Sora was rescued.

The victim,  Michael Fernandez was last seen as he jumped into the 18-feet-deep water trying to save Sora. A witness stated she tried to help but was unable to reach him. Fernandez and his dog were said to have been inseparable.
