A jury of her peers took 4 minutes to convict a Houston woman of animal cruelty over two emaciated dogs suffering from parasites , hunger and severe skin infections. Stephanie Renee Dunn was sentenced to six months in prison on Monday.

According to Kim Ogg – Office of District Attorney in Harris County, Texas, the one-day trial ended with sentencing Dunn, 45, for two charges of Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals. One dog had been tethered by a heavy chain and kept in a trash-strewn, fenced in yard. Authorities stated the two adult dogs looked like skeletons and later had to be humanely euthanized.

“Dogs are family to many people, and we won’t tolerate them being abused,” stated Ogg. “The citizens of Harris County spoke and held the defendant accountable for her actions.”

A puppy from the property did survive and has since been adopted.

Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office has established a new county-wide Animal Cruelty Task Force.
