An Instagram user in a social media stunt to garner more followers, trapped her dog inside of a washing machine as the terrified pooch tried desperately to escape. The short video and images of the woman’s West Highland terrier named Coco inside of the washing machine was condemned by social media users.
According to the Daily Mail, the Argentinian dog owner, Tamara Rotman, posted the video and asked followers to respond yes or no to the survey question she “asked” her dog –
“Are you going to be really traumatized?”
The video and photos show Coco’s face pushed up against the glass door of the washing machine, and although Rotman states the dog had only been in the machine for a few seconds, she emphasized the machine had at no point been switched on. Sadly, Coco’s feet made the tumbler part of the machine rotate, and he continued to try and find a way to escape until Rotman opened the door.
Viewers condemned her action as abusive and demanded she be charged with animal cruelty. At that time, Rotman temporarily deleted her account because of the backlash, but opened it back up showing a photo of Coco happily playing.
“I have a dog called Coco who I love with all my heart. Everyone who knows me knows that I devote my life and much more to him,” Rotman wrote after she turned her Instagram account back on.
Rotman later apologized for her actions, and still insisted she loves her dog.
“Furthermore in the video I uploaded you could see him running out after two seconds, but the girl who made it public decided to cut that part out to make me look worse,” Rotman wrote on her Instagram page. “It was some innocent mischief that I didn’t think would have these consequences.”
Rotman admits to having received aggressive threats wishing horrible actions on her. Of course, those kind of bodily threats are never to be excused, but there is nothing cute about scaring or causing any animal to suffer harm – no matter how harmless she thought the action appeared.
