On Tuesday morning, in the Marbella Lakes community, of Naples, Florida, a resident faces animal cruelty charges after authorities contend he drowned five ducklings in his swimming pool. According to a neighbor who called 911, she caught the man in the act.
NbcNews2 reports the Collier County deputies responded to the call from Rita Krill, who stated she was frightened when she heard chirps and screams coming from the next door neighbor’s back yard. When she went over to investigate, Ms. Krill saw the man using his skimmer to force the ducklings under water. She confronted the man:
“He looked me right in the eye and said, ‘I killed them. I don’t need any pets.’ I just ran in the house and said, ‘I’m calling the police.’ It was just heartbreaking,” Ms. Krill stated.
The case is now being investigated by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. No charges have been filed at this time. Neighbors hope this man is punished to the fullest extent of the law.
