On Friday evening, Facebook photos went viral showing a young cow in the backseat of a Volkswagen Passat driving down a highway heading towards Briton Ferry in South Wales. The photos appeared to show the car passing junction 42 eastbound on the M4.
After numerous calls and complaints, South Wales Police began an investigation to determine if any road traffic or animal welfare offenses had occurred. According to BBCNews, the RSPCA called the incident “completely unacceptable.”
“This is a completely unacceptable way to transport a large, farm animal. This represents an animal welfare concern but also a risk to the safety of the driver and other road users. We would strongly urge people never to transport an animal like this.”
The cow could be seen staring out of the rear window with a farm tag on its ear. The license plate of the light blue vehicle was visible in some of the photos. What were these people thinking? We will do an update as information is made available.
