Officers from the Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) are currently investigating two dogs witnessed having been thrown out of a car earlier this week. The dogs suffered multiple injuries; the youngest puppy had to have her leg amputated. A Good Samaritan called 911; fortunately the dogs were able to be rescued.
According to the Facebook page of the RACC, the dogs have been named Starsky and Hutch. The six-month old female Hutch suffered multiple fractures.
“Her pelvis is fractured. They think in only one spot, maybe two, and then she has multiple femur fractures on both sides,” described Christie Chipps-Peters. “She’ll for sure have one leg amputated.”
As for the male one-year-old pit bull mix Starsky, the malnourished pup suffered head injuries requiring numerous stitches, yet his bad experiences and a possible negligent owner hasn’t broken the friendly dog’s disposition who has been reported to be very friendly and lovable.
According to Channel 12 News, it is not known where the dogs came from – maybe stolen from someone’s yard? If an owner does not come forward, the dogs will be made available for adoption.
“Because of people helping and loving and supporting our city shelter, we’re in a position where we can continue to help and save lives that matter,” stated Chipps-Peters.
Starsky is expected to be ready for a new family soon. For Hutch, she will need a longer recovery period. Check out her recovery on video below. It will make your heart smile – we promise!
