Ellie is an 18-month-old playful spaniel, but no one wants to adopt her. For the last six-months, she has been at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Devon, United Kingdom. Hundreds of would-be adopters have walked away from the delightful pup because of the colors of her eyes – and yes, “colors.” The dog was born with a rare condition giving her two different colored eyes; one of her eyes is brown and the other is bright blue.
Shelter staff can’t think of any other reason. The condition referred to as heterochromia in humans is a result of less pigment in her left eye. Her vision isn’t affected at all. Ellie’s identical sister, named Mollie, was adopted shortly after she arrived in October, so what else could it be? When Ellie’s story was posted in the Express & Echo, Elise Watson, the adoption manager at the rescue stated:
“Ellie and Mollie arrived at the rehoming centre at the same time but weren’t necessarily looking to be rehomed together. They are both similar in temperament and personality, so we don’t think there is any reason that Ellie should be left behind. It’s baffling as she is a wonderful dog, and we think her blue eye is really striking.
For anyone considering giving this lovely pooch a home, she is described as great with other dogs and a home with another dog who can play with her and help her bond would be preferable. Ellie loves people, but she needs to be in an adult only home. Interested in meeting Ellie? Please get in touch with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe at 0300 303 0292. Please share her story with friends, family and social media. This delightful pup deserves a loving home.

so called adults mostly are stupid. beautiful bitch.
This dog is absolutely beautiful
This is ridiculous if that is the reason. My Bear had two different color eyes and he was one of the smartest dogs I every owned. She is a cutie and obviously has personality, Why wouldn’t someone want a unique dog like that?
That seems utterly ridiculous. I love her eyes. I had a horse like that, never was an issue. I think it makes her unique. She looks like a sweetheart. If I had my own place I would take her
She’s Gorgeous. That should not be a reason to not want her
That’s crazy. He has nice eyes. Stupid excuse. Ppl are so shallow
There is nothing wrong with this beautiful girl, least of all with her vision. Different colored eyes are fairly common in some breeds, such as the Siberian Husky, but it is much rarer in other breeds. She wouldn’t be eligible for showing as her breeding is unknown, and the different eyes would be an automatic disqualification.
It could be that some potential adopters are afraid that she may be or become blind in the blue eye, as color change sometimes seems to be part of the process.
I would happily adopt her, but I live almost halfway around the world.
This should be a REASON to adopt her! I rescued a dog who had one brown eye and one half-brown, half-blue eye. And he caused a stir wherever he went! He was TRULY UNIQUE! SHARED!
People are idiots. I have heterochromia, too, although not as pronounced as this dog. I would love a dog with two different colored eyes! I wonder if people worry the dog can’t see out of the blue eye?
Tally Ho! the English are a bunch of ‘stuffed shirts” My Ole Granny was one and Boy oh boy… Send the little girl to the Colony (USA ) I just know a Chap over here will have absolutely NO ISSUE with the eyes!! happens all the time!!! Good Golly you Chaps over the POND loosen up for Christ’s Sake!!
That’s sad that no one will adopt the dog cause of his eyes
That’s the stupidest thing I ever heard! Here in the US there are a lot of dogs who have eyes of two different colors and they are very popular! Actually I have quite a few patients whose eyes are two different colors! Perhaps you should send this very cute kid across the pond to us!
Ellie is a beautiful girl and her eyes make her even more precious. Please give this baby a wonderful loving home.
Her eyes, are adorable and so beautiful, why would anybody not want her.
She looks a little like a border collie mix. The eye could be attributed to her breed. Silly to NOT adopt her because of a blue eye. Sharing. I bet she is a smart cookie.
“Bi – eyes are NOT rare and are also seen in many Siberian Huskies among other dogs (and also some very nice human beings). If the dog were in New Jersey I would take it in a heartbeat!
She is a beautiful dog and her eye are so sweet and makes her so unique anyone one would be lucky to have her.
She is so gorgeous!! I wish I could take her – but I am so far away. Hang in there angel – your forever home is coming <3
Really? Never knew that a dog’s bi-color eyes would prevent from adopting.
I think she is a very BEAUTIFUL little dog ❤❤❤❤❤ dont underställd why she not be adopted!!!! She reserved a careful foreverhome !!!! GoodLuck Ellie ???????????????? you get a New Home soon sweetie ❤❤
As the owner of a blue eyed dog I can assure any potential adopter that eye colour makes no difference to the dog. She is beautiful and if she were in Australia I would adopt her in a heartbeat. Hope she find a great home soon
If Ellie lived in Australia I would adopt her in an instance. She is a beautiful dog.
Wow! ELLIE is an AdOrAbLe dog! One of my American Bulldogs has one blue eye and one brown eye. We call him Sonny, the bru-eyed dog. He is precious. The only difference is that he doesn’t seem to have normal night-vision with the blue eye… but, he has complained about it once!!
I meant to state that he “…he has NOT complained about it once”
oh my, sad, send her to me, I live in Maine.
I hope some one will adopt her Asap she is really cute
Send her to Milton, Pa I’ll take her! I love pup w his one blue eye and we are looking for a little girl to add to the family!
Then call them! Anyone can comment they’ll take them…shit we all can do that. You are obviously not that sincere if you cannot take the time and call with the info provided above.
