A baby moose, barely one-and-a-half-months old, was shot through the head with a hunting arrow in Shosone County, Idaho on Thursday night. Officers from the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office said the animal was suffering when they found it and decided to humanely end its life.
According to KhqNews, the deputies were informed about the disturbing incident and found the animal in grave distress lying near Vets Road in Pinehurst. In Idaho, anyone found guilty of poaching a moose could face up to $10,000 in fines and also be charged with animal cruelty.
“Provided further, that any person who pleads guilty, is found guilty of, or is convicted of illegal killing, illegal possession or illegal waste of a trophy big game animal as defined in section 36-202(h), Idaho Code, shall reimburse the state for each animal so killed, possessed or wasted, as follows:
… Trophy moose: ten thousand dollars ($10,000) per animal killed, possessed or wasted…”
