Arrested: Video captures heartless owner abandon dog in southern Dallas

A video, recorded by cameras installed by the Dallas County Marshall’s Office, captured a man stopping his car near Teagarden Road at Dowdy Ferry Road abandoning a one-year-old mixed breed female dog. On Monday, September 11, George Spears turned himself into authorities after an arrest warrant was issued by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the SPCA of Texas on a charge of animal cruelty. Spears has since been charged with a Class A misdemeanor for abandoning a dog.

According to the SPCA of Texas, this is the first time  cameras have captured an incident of alleged animal cruelty which has led to an arrest, and now marks the beginning of a close partnership between the SPCA of Texas and the Dallas Marshall’s Office in ongoing efforts to crack down on the epidemic animal cruelty and abandonment cases in the Dowdy Ferry areas. In addition, Dowdy Ferry Animal Commissions cameras also recorded the alleged crime and the hidden camera showed the dog being dumped as well.

The black and white pup, since dubbed Claira-Belle, was discovered and cared for by rescuers on August 5; she was  picked up by Dallas Animal Services in the early morning hours on August 6. The SPCA of Texas received information concerning the case on August 18 and instituted an investigation. Claira-Belle was transferred to the SPCA of Texas and has since been adopted.

Spears admitted he abandoned the dog, and told authorities he had been helping his sister by getting rid of the dog because she was unable to control her pet.

Let’s hope authorities pursue the harshest punishment as permitted by law and help to stop the heartbreaking crimes of pet abandonment in this community.

BREAKING: On Monday, September 11, 2017, Gorge Spears turned himself in to authorities after an arrest warrant was issued by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the SPCA of Texas earlier the same day on a charge of cruelty to animals, a Class A misdemeanor, for abandoning a one-year-old female mixed breed dog near Teagarden Rd. at Dowdy Ferry Rd. in southern Dallas. Criminal charges have been filed against Mr. Spears. The crime was recorded by the cameras the Dallas Marshal’s Office installed in the area. This is the first time these cameras have captured an incident of alleged animal cruelty that has led to an arrest, and it marks the beginning of a close partnership between the SPCA of Texas and the Dallas Marshall’s Office in ongoing efforts to crack down on animal cruelty in the Dowdy Ferry and surrounding areas. The dog, later named Claira-Belle, was found by witnesses on August 5th and picked up by Dallas Animal Services in the early morning hours of August 6th. The SPCA of Texas received information regarding the case on August 18th and then began the investigation. Claira-Belle was transferred to the SPCA of Texas on August 22nd, and cared for before being adopted on September 9th. During the course of the investigation, the SPCA of Texas spoke with Gorge Spears, who on September 8th admitted that he dumped the dog, saying that he was trying to help his sister by getting rid of the dog because his sister was unable to control her. This admission led the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office’s and SPCA of Texas’ Animal Cruelty Investigator to file the arrest warrant.

I am so glad Claira-Belle was found and now has a new loving family. As for George Spears, I hope they throw the book at this POS and make an example of this so maybe the next POS will think twice before just “leaving” their pet along side a road!

We don’t want cameras watching everything we do,BUT the safety of people and animals warrant these cameras. When there is actual evidence of a crime, there is no denying you did something wrong and should be arrested and charged.

So damn cruel and heartless. He should be charged with abandoning a child, because that is what dogs are equivalent to in capabilities, thoughts, emotions and feelings. It’s been proven. They depend on us, their family, for survival, safety and love. Shame on his sister for allowing this to happen. Nothing is wrong with the dog. It’s the human who didn’t raise her or train her properly. I’m so angry. Get to your local representatives and legislators people and take action. It has to be us that rewrite the laws to protect animals. That is how our country was made to work. If not you, then who will?

Helping your sister? Should stay on top of news better dumbass. Now you need a hefty fine, community service helping animals at the AC and never allowed to be around or own another animal

That poor, precious baby knew…look at how slowly she got out of the car and how her tail was tucked in after she was out. I hope the punishment fits the crime for that despicable “human”.

BASTARD! Right by a busy roadway, with a lengthy chain that could’ve become entangled and hung her… or caught on a passing vehicle and dragged her to an excruciating death!

Once again because the dog did not die or was not injured this hunk of maggot puke was only charged with a misdemeanor – both him and his sister should be in jail – but of course, this is Texas where animals barely count – nothing will happen to Spears and he will continue on – Texas needs a massive wake up call to start treating animal abusers like child abusers – there is no difference – it is abuse of those who are defenseless and have no voice.

This video made our 10 pm news in Arizona! I see the man has turned himself in. I hope they charge him and try him. Come on TX. Time to get serious about the animal abuse/neglect/abandonment issue. It isn’t going away until YOU fix it.
