Animal shelters across the nation are feeling the impact of the coronavirus shut down, and some are getting creative in an attempt to keep adoptions going. The Lifeline Animal Project in Dekalb County, Georgia, has created drive-through adoptions for three area animal shelters, reports Fox 5 News.
Public Relations Director Karen Hirsch explains the process:
“The first step is setting up an appointment online. Then after finding an animal they’re interested in online, they would drive to the respective location and a volunteer or employee would bring the pet to meet the person interested.”
With most people staying home, overall adoptions are down…but animals are still coming in (strays and surrenders) which is creating an unfortunate situation. In an effort to further encourage people to commit to a new friend, Lifeline Animal Project is waiving adoption fees through March 20.

Note: If you are stuck at home because of the shut down, consider reaching out to a local shelter or rescue group to see if you can foster a homeless pet. The four-legged companionship will be good for your emotional health!
