Tiny French bulldog puppy set to be euthanized inspired fundraising campaign for major surgery saving her life

Just this week, Stray Rescue of St. Louis stepped up to save the life of a tiny blue and tan French bulldog puppy named Bumblebee. The puppy suffered from a left side femoral neck fracture – Her femur was broken and no longer connected to her pelvis.

The puppy had arrived at a local shelter, but because of their lack of funds, the puppy had been placed on the euthanasia list. Just the thought of the puppy being euthanized, prompted the staff and the thousands of Stray Rescue of St. Louis supporters to organize a fundraising campaign for her surgery.

Meet Bumblebee. She arrived at the organization’s hospital where veterinarians examined her and determined this injury could be repaired at their clinic.

This is actually a common injury, and one that we can fix right here in our clinic.

From the moment Bumblebee arrived, her adorable face, sweet disposition and story inspired an entire fundraising campaign. According to the clinic’s veterinarian, Dr. Oliver, a mallet and hammer and gigli wire, a highly flexible twisted wire surgical saw are used to repair these types of injuries. Bone saws cost about $5,000 depending on the type.

We said – “Well….how often would you use a bone saw?”

In the past year at least 40 animals received the surgery and Stray Rescue of St. Louis clinic could have used a bone saw to help surgeons.

Because of the incredibly generous donors, the funds have been raised, and the order has been placed. The bone saw will help to shorten surgery times thus enabling safer and more efficient procedures to repair similar injuries.

Bumblebee’s surgery was a success. Get your happy tissues out – the puppy got to wake up in Dr. Oliver’s lap, feeling very safe, secure and loved. She’s the sweetest little thing.

Bumblebee is learning to walk again and will soon be placed on the road to recovery in a foster home.

The organization is grateful to be able to do these surgeries in-house. It saves them a fortune and allows them to save more. More, more, more! It is never-ending, but if you follow their amazing rescue stories, they save as many as they can. As long as our community continues to come foster and adopt, they will keep saving more!

Thank you all so much. We’ll update you as soon as it comes in, we’re placing the order. THANK YOU!! Strayrescue.org/bumblebee
