Roadie’s story could have ended very differently. On Thursday, the dog was found injured on the side of a busy San Antonio highway. He was alone, scared and in pain. Apparently he had been struck by a vehicle, and somehow crawled away from the traffic on Highway 281.

Motorists called for emergency help with police and the highway patrol.

In what can only be categorized as a near miracle, Dr. Austin Coull, a local veterinarian with Thrive Pet Healthcare – Broadway, had been driving to work when he stopped to help, after spotting the dog being assisted by the San Antonio Police Department. Dr. Coull, along with Dr. Nathan Earl and Covenant Care Animal Hospital, immediately rallied around Roadie to make sure he received the care he needed.

Roadie suffered from a broken leg as well as multiple scrapes and bruises.

He has since undergone surgery; Roadie has already started walking. Veterinary staff report his prognosis is excellent, and he is expected to return to normal activities.

As of Thursday, Thrive Pet Healthcare staff said they were still trying to locate Roadie’s owner. If this is your dog or you recognize him, please contact the Thrive Pet Healthcare – Broadway.

We’re cheering for your speedy recovery Roadie!
