On Saturday morning, rescuers from El Salvador discovered 15-year-old Camila Sofía and her little dog Chanel alive. The two had been trapped in a collapsed building in La Guaira, Venezuela for more than 50 hours.
Camila Sofia Medina Rives, 15, had been trapped on the ninth floor of the Bahia Mar building in the Caribe area for three days after the double earthquake destroyed the city.
According to CiberCuba, the Humanitarian Rescue Unit of El Salvador (UHR) were able to achieve the miraculous rescue effort in multiple planned phases. First, rescuers were able to pinpoint the survivors and carefully moved rubble and heavy concrete blocks to extract Chanel, a Yorkshire terrier that belonged to the teen.

In the recorded video, the rescue team announced they had safely pulled Chanel to safety and were going to remove the rubble where Camila Sofia was still trapped. After 13 hours of excruciatingly difficult labor, enough space was finally made to lift and carry the young girl to safety.
Her mother waited and was there as the team pulled her to safety.
Hours later, the president confirmed that the young woman had been found alive and that her mother was waiting for her below, along with part of the Salvadoran team, although it was still necessary to break down several walls to reach her safely.
It is heartwarming to note that while Camila was still trapped, she had been in constant communication and comforted knowing her rescuers were working nonstop to make sure her she would soon be free.
The complete rescue video was then posted with the message:
We have rescued Camila! Thank you God, for using us in this way. Strength to Venezuela.

Amazingly, neither Camila nor Chanel were seriously injured.
Here’s hoping many more human lives and the animals still waiting to be rescued can be saved as soon as possible.
