Three emaciated dogs abandoned at Georgia cemetery hoped someone would come to their rescue

Early Monday morning, officers from Walker County Animal Control responded to a heartbreaking call about three dogs that had been abandoned at a cemetery on Sunday evening.

Fortunately, it had been a concerned citizen who spotted the dogs at the McWilliams Cemetery located at West Armuchee and Smith Gap Roads. When officers arrived, they found two emaciated dogs who were scared and hungry – running loose through the cemetery.

While the animal control officers were trying to capture the two dogs, they heard a faint whimpering sound coming from underneath them in a nearby drainage pipe.

And as if the heartbreak of trying to rescue two very scared and skinny dogs thrown away as if their lives didn’t count, there was another extremely emaciated black and white pup who had taken refuge in the pipe; she was so weak and barely surviving.

And there she was – waiting, surviving and hoping someone would come to her rescue. Her heroes named her “Miracle” because without a doubt, her condition and the chances of anyone having discovered her before she died from starvation, had to have been a miracle.

Animal control officers were careful, compassionate and patient rescuing Miracle. She was too weak to move and was rushed to an emergency veterinarian hospital where she weighed in at only ten pounds.

These three dogs are now receiving the care, food and attention they desperately need.

Please reach out if you need assistance; resources are available. If you recognize these dogs, or have any information on this case, please contact Walker County Animal Control at 706-924-0053 or [email protected]. Tips can be provided anonymously.

It is illegal to abandon a pet.

Every animal deserves safety, compassion and a chance to recover. Thank you to the animal control officers for their dedication and for never giving up on animals in need.
