In Texas, Trina & Friends K-9 Rescue, reached out and volunteered to help A0060767375; a shepherd blend who arrived at the shelter on April 9, 2026 with maggots coming out of his head and ears from severe bite wounds. He was rushed to Family Pet Care in Texas.

The shelter called out for help; it was an emergency:

This boy needs emergency placement.
This poor boy just arrived at Fort Worth Animal Care & Control — and he came in like this…
Maggot-infested bite wounds.
He is in pain. He is suffering. And he needs IMMEDIATE medical care.
There is no time.
No window to wait.
No room for delay.
Thanks to the Fort Worth Shelter, officers rushed him to the veterinarian hospital as soon as Trina & Friends K-9 Rescue committed to help.

He had not been named by the shelter, and no one thought anyone would come for him. By the time he arrived, he was already broken; in so much pain and with so little hope. At the veterinarian hospital, he was immediately started on IV fluids and injectable medications. He had multiple old, open wounds on his neck and shoulders that had become infested with maggots; these were not new injuries. It hurt hearts to imagine him suffering like this all alone and unable to help himself.

As his slow healing continued, a profound surprise greeted supporters on Friday. It was titled:
Update on “Maggot Boy” whose real name is Rocko
Rocko is 13 years-old, and he was not an abandoned street dog. When his family moved to a new home, Rocko escaped and had been missing more than a month. During the entire time, his family was frantic and searched for him. They had no idea if he was even still alive.

As the Fort Worth Animal Shelter reached out to Trina & Friends K-9 Rescue for emergency care, his family spotted Rocko on the shelter’s site. After weeks of searching, they finally found their dog.
It appears Rocko may have been attacked by another animal while he was out there. His owners explained that Rocko was never an outside dog; he hated the heat so being lost like that was extremely traumatic for him. Past photos of Rocko provided by the family show how well cared for he had been and how much he is loved.

We are now working closely with his owners, and it’s very clear they truly care about him. You can hear the emotion and relief. this dog is loved. Rocko has been through a lot and still needs time to heal and recover, so right now our focus is getting him the medical care he needs and making sure he’s comfortable and safe.
When he is fully healed and strong enough, he will be reunited with his family where he belongs. This is what rescue is about stepping in when needed and doing what’s right for the dog.
Many thanks to everyone who have supported him and continues to follow his journey.
