Earl, a mule from Castalian Springs, Tennessee became an internet star this past week after his harrowing misadventure during a dangerous snow and ice storm.
Earl had wondered away from his home on January 26 after a fence had been damaged during the storm. His family and friends became very worried since he had been missing for three days during the severe weather.
Chad Patton reached out to social media for help. Earl seemed to have vanished without a trace.

I live at 946 Harsh Lane my fence got torn down and my two red mules got out I was able to find and catch one, but Earl is missing in action.I have been looking for him since sun up this morning .If you happen to see him please message or call me at **** thanks in advance .He is the one with th white spot on his head
Just a few days after Earl disappeared, a hiker, Chris Parks spotted Earl on January 28; the mule had become trapped in a frozen river at Bledsoe Creek State Park in Gallatin along the Shoreline Trail. Earl’s owners rushed to the location along with a long line of rescuers, officials and concerned neighbors.

Rescuers believe Earl swam across the lake in the cold water and then could not get out on the bank.

Emergency workers, the sheriff’s office, the community and the Sumner County EMA arrived to free Earl. They used chainsaws to cut through the ice until they were eventually able to clear a path up the eight-foot embankment where Earl was stuck.

Chad was able to keep Earl calm as the workers all helped to free him. Fortunately, there were no injuries and hopefully Earl will stay home with Pearl.
His owner Chad Patton was relieved to have Earl home.

Earl is home safe ! I can not thank everyone who was involved in the hunt and rescue enough
