One lucky black German shepherd, named Bruce, was blown out to the North Sea after his inflatable kayak accidentally became untied at Bamburgh Beach on England’s coast. In the beginning of the week Bruce had been with his owner when the strong winds pushed Bruce out to sea.

Ahd there Bruce went – floating out to sea with the strong winds blowing his kayak farther away from his worried owner.
After the report of Bruce’s disappearance, the Coast Guard initiated a search. Soon, Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours joined the multi boat search. The crew had been hosting guests to Inner Farne, when the skipper Jimmy Reid heard the distress call about Bruce.
Luckily Bruce was spotted more than two miles north of the beach. What started as a normal day touring the beautiful beach area, famous for its backdrop of the Bamburgh Castle around the Farne Islands, the mission quickly became a race against time.
After dropping passengers ashore, Jimmy and crewman Aaron Fordy immediately joined the search. Time was of the essence as every minute that passed, the strong westerly wind was pushing Bruce farther out to sea.
Two hours later, the kayak was spotted. But where was Bruce?
Then Aaron spotted something in the distance; there was the kayak, but as they approached no one could see Bruce. For a moment, they feared the worst. Had Bruce fallen out of the kayak?

Then, suddenly, a head appeared inside the kayak. The dog was alive! The crew reached out and grabbed the dog by its harness, but in a heart-stopping moment, Bruce had slipped out of the harness and plunged back into the sea.
Aaron jumped over the side of the boat and grabbed Bruce; moments later Jimmy grabbed hold of the dog’s leg, and together they were able to hoist the dog aboard.
Without hesitation, Aaron lunged over the side and grabbed the dog by the scruff of its neck. As he was almost pulled overboard himself, Jimmy grabbed hold of Aaron’s leg and together they somehow managed to haul the dog safely aboard.
Bruce was wrapped in towels to help recover from being wet and shaken, and has since been reunited with his emotional owners.
Many thanks to all the heroes. Bruce couldn’t have survived without them.
