A two-year-old pet turkey living in Oxford, Ohio has been recovering from a dog attack as he protected the other farm animals on his family’s farm.
According to the Oxford Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Schroeder and Dr. Raghu have been treating his dog bite wounds after Thomas the turkey was bitten twice. The turkey’s owner, Cara Zellers, saw the attack on her outdoor cameras which showed a dog running through the yard.
After the attack, Thomas ran into the garage and hid.
The family said Thomas had likely been protecting the family’s other animals which included ducks, chickens and his turkey mate, Gamora. Thomas protected all of the animals and made sure they were safe until the Zellers returned home.

Thomas is described by the family as a friend who waits at the door when his human family arrives home. He’s slowly recuperating, and the family has been making plans to take their friendly turkey to meet Santa at the Bass Pro Shops soon.
