A family’s beloved Golden Retriever, named Havoc, wandered away from his home in Forsyth County, Georgia three weeks ago. How Havoc ended up in Jasper, Georgia, which is 20 miles from where he lives, remains a mystery. And why some unknown person would shoot the dog also remains a mystery.

Havoc’s scary journey began September 9 while he had been outside playing with his humans. Suddenly, there was a deer, and the chase was on!
Havoc’s owner, Tischa Cox Ross-Collett searched everywhere for him; tacked up posters, called animal shelters and employed the help of the community who searched for the dog and shared the news via social media.

Just this past week Havoc was rescued by a Good Samaritan:

i wanted to take a moment to say Thank-you to all that helped to bring our baby boy home. it would not have been possible without each of you helping the way you have over the last 3 weeks.
During the three weeks Havoc had been missing, he lost 20 pounds. He was immediately taken to the family’s veterinarian in Cumming where it was determined the dog’s leg had been broken as the result of a gun shot. He was transferred to Ortho Vet in Alpharetta and prepared for surgery; fortunately Havoc did not need to have his leg amputated.

Havoc’s Facebook page has been detailing his recovery. It seems he’s not happy being confined to one place and is not being allowed to jump and play as he would like to be doing:

…Now I’m stuck here, rocking this stylish cone of shame, and I’m convinced my cat brother is secretly mocking me. This recovery process is shaping up to be a real blast – said no one ever.
Havoc will be returning to the surgeon regularly for bandage changes, and that will become the standard bill of fare until the external fixator is removed. Follow up surgery is planned in the next six to eight weeks where plates and screws will be putting Havoc’s leg back together again.
For now, he’s all about resting, healing and eating everything in sight to regain his strength.
Never give up hope.
