In St. Petersburg, Florida, three-year-old a loyal pup named Sparta has been recovering after4 a man hurled the dog off a second floor balcony after the pit bull jumped at the man protecting his 15-year-old teenage girl owner.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau responded to a residence on September 29, 2025 about a report of animal abuse and lewd and lascivious conduct.
An investigation led to 44-year-old Nigel Myers following a 15-year-old victim into a bedroom of the home. The victim was able to leave the bedroom; however, Myers followed her into the living room and continued trying to get her back into the bedroom. During this altercation, three-year-old pit bull Sparta approached Myers and began jumping on him in a protective manner.
Myers then allegedly picked up Sparta and threw him against the top compartment of a dog cage. Shortly after, Myers picked up Sparta by his two hind legs and threw him off the second-floor balcony of the residence.

Myers was arrested and charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty, Domestic Battery, Child Abuse, and Lewd and Lascivious Conduct. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
Social media has backed support and of course gratitude for this very brave and loyal dog with one person stating:
Difference between nature and nurture. It’s not the dog. Pitties get a bad rap. They are awesome dogs.
And as another commenter posted, we surely can’t disagree – “Sparta deserves steak for life.”
Please contact Pinellas County State Attorney’s Office: Office of the State Attorney, Sixth Judicial Circuit and ask for justice for both the teen girl and Sparta.
