In New Bern, North Carolina, the Craven County Sheriff’s Office – Animal Protective Services had an unusual call on Thursday. This time it wasn’t to rescue stray puppies or a kitten stuck in a tree.
This time, an American Bald Eagle was reported to be on the side of the highway not able to fly.

Yes, the symbol of freedom itself apparently needed a roadside pit stop. Our officers carefully stepped in (with way less grace than the eagle, we admit) and made sure it was safe.
The eagle was transported to the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter -OWLS in Newport, where it was evaluated and examined. Think of it like a spa retreat for freedom feathers.
After Animal Protective Services helped capture and transport the eagle, it is now in the specialty care of Wild At Heart Wildlife Sanctuary, where it will receive the treatment it needs. Any funds raised will go directly to Wild At Heart, as they are the ones providing its ongoing care.
Donations help cover the eagle’s care—and let’s face it, keeping America’s bird in top flying condition takes more than a bag of bird seed.
Wishing this beautiful living symbol of America a speedy and complete recovery.
