The New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) returned a bear cub to the Adirondack wilderness this week. The female had been rescued in June after tips indicated the cub had been living in a garage in Fulton County in a dog crate and fed dog food.

The person responsible admitted they had lured the cub into the crate after finding it nearby.

The cub was taken to the  Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center for rehabilitation.

This past week, DEC and Wildlife staff released her back into the Adirondacks, where she belongs. The release was led by Brittany Delor and Conservation Officer Shane Manns.

Please be reminded that owning or keeping a wild animal captive is a crime.

The initial photos (2) is when the cub was captured. Subsequent photos (3) and information supplied stated the cub has grown to twice the size pictured in the cage. Officials are optimistic this female bear will do well back in the wild.
