Last week, a family’s dog was repeatedly shot by a New York State trooper who had been conducting neighborhood interviews. In Mamakating, Sullivan County, three-year-old Pumpkin was shot twice after the officer claimed the dog had pressed forward to attack him after he rang the doorbell to the owners’ home.

.

Pumpkin, a 3-year-old family dog, was shot twice after the Trooper unloaded nearly his full clip. Other bullets hit the house and the car. Eyewitnesses have reported there was no apology or remorse as Pumpkin was left bleeding.

According to a statement, the NYSP reported the trooper had been conducting neighborhood interviews on Elm Road in Wurtsboro and was interviewing a resident when the door opened. According to the police, Pumpkin bolted out “in an aggressive manner,” charging at the officer. The trooper claimed he had been “backed into a corner with no viable cover or avenue of retreat” and “fearing for his safety,” fired his weapon multiple times.

Pumpkin’s owner disputes the trooper’s report stating the officer did not even try to de-escalate the situation with the dog and just started shooting.

Pumpkin was then rushed to an emergency veterinarian where her leg will need to be amputated in order for her to regain her quality of life.

Her owner is legally blind and describes Pumpkin as his emotional support animal. A GoFundMe has been set up for her medical care. We are also asking anyone with information about this officer to come forward.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with Pumpkin’s vet bills.

Hello my name is Dammian, if you know me you know my best friend and partner in crime is my Dog Pumpkin. She’s an American bully. And the sweetest most docile dog .Two days ago a NY state trooper rang my doorbell and as usual and as any dog would, my dog ran outside and barked because the officer’s back was to us and his car was not visible, within seconds he took out his gun and shot at her 7 times striking her twice…

The incident is currently under investigation.
