Dr. Annie Harvilicz, 41, a Los Angeles veterinarian, has opened her home and an empty animal hospital to more than 40 dogs and cats including one rabbit named Oreo from the path of the Pacific Palisades fire as their owners were forced to evacuate. She also rescued four dogs from the LAX Airport and has taken them home with her too.
Havilicz said the owners didn’t have any space or resources to bring their pets with them.

The popular veterinarian has two animal hospitals in the Los Angeles area and began welcoming pet owners a place to keep their dogs and cats shortly after the fire broke out on Tuesday. The fire is about 12 miles from the veterinarian hospital which has forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes in Southern California.

i haven’t slept at all and my eyes are hurting from the smoke. i do it because i love animals and want to take care of them.
The Santa Ana winds have wreaked havoc on the efforts of firefighters trying to control the blaze. One woman who owned nine donkeys asked Harvilicz to help, but the woman didn’t have a trailer and had to release the animals to flee from danger on their own. It is not likely the donkeys survived. Saving the large animals has been the most challenging part of the rescue efforts.

If anyone affected by the Palisades fire needs help with their animals please let me know …[email protected] I have an old veterinary hospital in Marina del Rey we can use to house animals. Please spread the word and let me know if anyone needs help.
Xoxo
Dr. Annie
According to the Animal Wellness Foundation, pet owners are urged to take their pets with them when they evacuate. They will not be able to come back to get them. Take them and you will find a place to stay. Hotels are becoming more pet friendly, rentals are more pet friendly, there are many animal shelters, neighbors will help, the veterinary community will be there for you. When everything seems lost your family and your community will be there for you. Everyone is doing their best to help all the animals…all creatures great and small!
