In Chicago, a 14-year-old service dog remains missing. This week marked two months since Angel Santiago was last with his dachshund Bam Bam who had been stolen by two men from his own backyard.
On June 5, two men walked into Santiago’s backyard near Monticello and Fullerton Avenues while Bam Bam had been outside on a bathroom break. Santiago, who has been legally blind since birth because of glaucoma, heard the disturbance and tried to intervene.
One of the men grabbed the dog as Santiago tried to wrestle the other one to the ground. One of the suspects is believed to have been a teenager. Santiago could hear his dog’s barks getting fainter and fainter as the men ran away.
Santiago hasn’t given up! Every day he walks up to seven miles hanging flyers with Bam Bam’s photos. Neighbors have been helping, but thus far only scam calls have been received.
Bam Bam is microchipped and means the world to his owner. Angel is not giving up.

bam bam means the world to me and i feel my body draining away. I can only do so much. i promisedd that i will keep walking and walking, yelling his name out.
BUt if you could just help me with your own eyes and see if you could spot him for me…
Please check Bam Bam’s photo and keep your eyes open. If you spot him, please don’t scare him and chase him. Use treats to lure him over and contact the Chicago police.
Santiago refuses to give up hope that he’ll be reunited with Bam Bam. Please keep a lookout for Bam Bam.
Angel walks the area of Monticello and Fullerton for several hours a day looking for Bam Bam. If you would like to help, call 773-501-8354.
