Thanks to the brave firefighters from Fox River and Countryside Fire Department in St. Charles, Illinois, a husky was rescued from an icy pond. The dog, named Slash had a microchip, however the information is outdated.

Early in the morning, neighbors had been contacting local police reporting a dog barking as if in distress. When Deputy Chief Jim Niesel arrived, the dog had his head sticking out of the icy water, unable to paddle to the safety of the land.

One of the firefighters donned an exposure suit with flotation capability and crawled out on the ice.

He was then able to lift the dog and was soon joined by other firemen who were able to return to the shore.

Check out the full rescue. “Watch these amazing firefighters in action as they rescue a husky that fell through the ice early this morning. Thanks to quick response, specialized ice rescue training, and teamwork, this brave pup was pulled to safety and transported in warm blankets to Dundee Animal Hospital for care.”
According to news sources, Slash was brought to the Animal House Shelter in Huntley pending notification to his owners. Neighbors in the area have reported seeing the dog roaming the area for the last few days.
It is estimated Slash had been in the icy waters for at least an hour.
This dog’s expired microchip is a good reminder to all pet owners to make sure to update the information should your canine family member (cats and horses too) get lost.
Many thanks to our heroes from the fire department who are always ready to rescue anyone in danger.
