In Killeen, Texas, a terribly malnourished dog named Goldie, began her life with unimaginable cruelty. When discovered at the beginning of July 2025, she had been left tied to a tree in front of her owner’s home. Her owner had been in the service, and had decided to live on base; Goldie had been left tied to the tree with no shelter, no water and no food.

Her owner never gave Goldie a second thought. Even when he spent time at the house, he would bring in groceries and eat in front of her; there had been no scraps or leftovers given to Goldie. Slowly, life was fading away for the young dog.

Goldie suffered in plain sight. Many people had watched her wasting away, but no one thought to even stop and help; that is until someone did.

Goldie was picked up by animal services and brought to Killeen Animal Services where she was diagnosed as malnourished, losing her fur and suffering from severe mange over her entire body. It had been Jack Jacks Pack Street Dog Rescue based out of Pflugerville, Texas, that stepped up to provide the life-saving treatments needed for “Goldie to get her voice back.”

Goldie was treated at Mercy Veterinary Hospital and Veterinary Emergency Group where she received the best care available. She remained in the hospital for several days; her prognosis had been uncertain.

Our rescue was able to tag Goldie and get her the emergency care she desperately needed. she was hospitalized for several days barely clinging to life, but Goldie is a fighter.

There continues to be a light ahead when success stories are features. Please continue to support the everyday heroes helping those who have no voice.

Amanda Moore, the director of the Killeen Animal Services emphasizes how rescue work remains so important to save lives:

Goldie’s story reflects what happens when people come together with compassion. She’s a living example of why rescue work matters.

Goldie is about 1.5 years old, loves all dogs, has no resource guarding – either with food or toys, is great with kids, potty trained and can be left alone (no crate needed), but remember she is still a puppy so keep toys, shoes, remotes, et al out of her reach.

Goldie would love a fur-ever family that is active and has another pup that she can play with. Goldie is one of a kind.

Her DNA results: she is 39% husky, 16% German Shepherd and 14% Great Pyrenees.
