In Lucedale, Mississippi, a dog missing for five years, has been reunited with her owner after having been found in Deland, Florida – nearly 400 miles away from her home.
According to Wesh2News, the chihuahua named Penny, disappeared from the family’s backyard. Her owner, Kristy Taylor had posted the dog’s information on several Facebook missing pet pages, but never received any responses as to sightings of her dog. She had lost hope Penny would ever be returned.

No one knows where the six-year-old dog had been all this time, but she is healthy, happy and well-fed.
In a very strange turn of events for Penny, the tiny dog had been spotted wandering the Deland streets and settled to rest in Briana Rideout’s driveway. Briana posted notices at the intersection where the dog was found, went door to door asking anyone if they knew the dog, but no one claimed her.
On Monday, Penny arrived at the county shelter, and a scan for a microchip told Penny’s story. Her owners received the phone call the next day – yes Penny was at the shelter.
By the next day, her family was on the road to bring their dog home. Penny is now back with her family and being introduced to her new furry companions.
We just can’t emphasize enough to make sure your pets are microchipped. It works!
