In Sacramento County, California, a dog missing for five years has been reunited with his rightful owners after his disappearance.
Meet Choco – a rescued dachshund who went missing from his home in Antelope in 2021. The dog’s owner, Patricia had given up hope that she would ever see her beloved pup again. She never stopped searching for him, but time was passing and there had been no sightings. No kidding – miracles do happen. And this reunion was made possible because Choco had a microchip.

Choco was found tied to a fence outside Detroit. That’s correct – Detroit which is more than 2,000 miles from his California home.

Choco had been picked up by the local animal control and brought to the Lincoln Park Animal Shelter where his microchip was scanned. Imagine the shock when the shelter called Choco’s owner?
The California animal rescue, Helping Paws and Claws joined with a generous stranger who donated her airline miles and flew Choco home.
Helping Paws and Claws posted the good news on their Facebook page:

1645 days later, that’s 4 years and 7 months, he showed up 2289 miles away, tied to the fence at a small shelter in Lincoln Park, near Detroit, Michigan. Choco had a microchip with a current contact number. The owner was contacted by the shelter.
Patricia is relieved and so very happy that Choco is finally home. Now Choco is a bit more gray around the jowls, but hey 9 years of age just makes him a senior citizen with quite the tale (tail) to tell the family.
