Who would ever think a bald eagle would be resting on a family’s outside porch, but one Washington mom captured the unique footage of the strangest eye to eye encounter with her golden retriever pooch, Gnocchi.

Reportedly, the dog was shocked and initially barked and growled, jumping off the couch as if he had been momentarily scared.
On her Instagram account, Stacy Goss videoed the huge bald eagle staring at Gnocchi. Needless to say, Gnocchi seemed a bit intimidated; surely that had to have been the largest bird he had ever seen. Stacy was just as surprised:

what the hell? There’s a bald eagle on our deck. Does it want to eat gnocchi? could she carry our dog away?
Oh Hell yeah!
Check this out. The eagle spent more than a day perched on a log off to the side of their home.
Game wardens from the National Parks Service did come out to the family’s home to make sure the tagged eagle wasn’t hurt and unable to fly. According to experts, the eagle had likely eaten a roadkill “deer” which grounds them for a day or two while their food digests.
Stacy’s Instagram account garnered more than 860,000 views where she posted several videos of the more than 24 hour encounter.
As to whether the eagle could have carried Gnocchi off is highly unlikely. The birds are opportunist feeders, meaning whatever they can find to eat is what they will catch – mostly fish. Of course, there are stories of eagles carrying off small dogs and cats, but mostly they prefer the ease of dining on roadkill deer.
