Urgent plea to help Dozer find a home after spending 571 days in shelter

At the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation in New York, a handsome four-year-old mixed breed pup, has been at the shelter for 571 days; yep, that’s right, and even though the staff, volunteers and Today Show reporter and animal advocate, Jill Rappaport, sing Dozer’s praises, no one wants to adopt him.

Dozer originally had been adopted out West and was truly loved by his previous owner, but when his owner fell upon hard times and had nowhere to live, Dozer was surrendered to the shelter. He’s a sweet guy who loves people. In fact, lately Dozer has developed a real fondness for toys, and he loves to play with other dogs. He seems to do best with calm female dogs; the more tolerant and a pooch who likes to have brief bursts of energy and then settle in for an afternoon sun bath, would be a perfect canine companion for Dozer.

Check out his photos; he weighs 76 pounds and if you notice, his muzzle seems to be gray and white – oh boy, doesn’t he look old? The shelter staff prefer to refer to Dozer as an “old soul,” and maybe his appearance of being older has dissuaded families from adopting him?
