In Park County, Wyoming, one of the family’s four dogs, Jade, had been unexpectedly spooked by the loud noises of machinery and trucks driving by when she darted out of the car. Jade’s owner chased the dog for three-quarters of a mile, but the dog had fled into the Wyoming woods where bears, coyotes and mountain lions hunted for prey.
According to the Washington Post, before Jade escaped, the dog had been having an adverse reaction to her allergy medication, and she suffered from facial swelling and a loss of appetite. It had been on June 4, the day the dog bolted, that her owner, Tim Paul had planned to take her to the vet. After her disappearance Paul continued to search for her – spending the night in his truck hoping for the Boxer to return.

Jade had been a rescue pup from 2022, and the family wasn’t giving up. Every day Paul and his wife Laura Wilderman hiked into the woods calling and searching for their dog. They took out radio ads, posted all over social media and offered a reward; even hiring a dog tracker to help find Jade. And yes, volunteers would call them to help, and the kind people in the community also helped with the search.
Laura asked for help on social media:
Tim spent the night out in Little Buffalo Basin hoping ahe would come back the the spot she was last seen. Still no sign of her. I am trying to keep the faith, but it is very hard. We have a drone search olanned today, as weather should be more favorable. He will also use dogs to track her scent. Thank you for continued prayers.
Dear friends and family…our sweet Jade is missing. She went missing about 3 hours ago in little buffalo basin. If you are in Wyoming, i ask that you please share this. And please pray for her safe return. She has been having some medical issues so it is even more crutial we find her ASAP.
Sadly, weeks went by, and there was no sign of Jade.
Finally, there seemed to have been a sighting of the dog when a local rancher spotted a Boxer eating a carcass via his trail camera. The rancher was able to get close to Jade a few days later, but the skittish dog spotted the man and bolted.
At least there was hope, now finding out that Jade was indeed alive, and the dog’s family placed a large humane trap baited with food near where the dog had been spotted. They also placed some of their clothes as a familiar scent, hoping Jade would remember her family.
Although there were a few distractions, it was time! Exactly seven weeks after Jade had run away she wandered into the trap; she was finally safe and ready to go home.

Jade was a bit messy from her ordeal, but as she entered her home, she was ready for dinner and then off to bed to take a nap. It was as if she had only been gone for a day! The other dogs seemed glad to see her, and it was as if the dogs thought it was just another day with their pal Jade.

The dog was given a clean bill of health at the vet, and it’s a reminder to anyone who is still searching for their lost pet – miracles do happen.
Welcome home Jade.
